A letter from the board chair
Hello Friends!
With the close of 2017, I would like to thank each and every board member for their dedication to St. Joseph’s Community Foundation. To give time and creativity is grealty appreciated and is the foundation for a strong and successful group to continue uts wotk within the community. For example, SJCF gave away $118,600 in scholarships and grants, and in addition, another $40,000 grant was given to the Paris-Lamar County Health Department due to the generosity of The Good Samaritan Clinic which has closed its doors. The Texas Underwriters Ball brought in over $68,000 which greatly contributes to funding our scholarships and grants.
In January 2018, some new faces were added to the foundation, and some old freinds retired their services. Again, we thank you for your dedication and service, I would like to personally thank Robert Smith, our outgoing Chairman, for his forward thinking, his intellect, and his ability to end meetings on time! I look toward him for mentorship as I step in as chair for 2018. I am proud (and relieved) to announce Jerome Chapman has accepted the position of Vice Chair for 2018. His knowledge of the Texas Underwriters Ball is priceless. I personally want to thank Louisa Kessel for all her hard work and cheerfulness directing the foundation. She is always energetic and competent in her duties.
In closing, I would like to remind everyone of the Mission of the St. Joseph’s Community Foundation which has been stated as follows:
“The Mission of the Foundation is to perpetuate the mission of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word and thier over 90-year tradition of improving the availbility and effectiveness of medical care in the Red River Valley with a special emphasis on persons who are underserved or in financial need.”
Sincerely,
Jill Awtrey, D.O.
